Wedding FAQs

Choosing your wedding photographer is a major decision in planning your wedding. You want to make sure that you are well-informed. In the last 15 years that I’ve been photographing weddings, many of the same questions have been asked. So I’ve put together an FAQ to help you better understand my photography services.
Should you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via the contact form or by calling me at 514-586-5524.

How much do you charge for a wedding?
Because of the Covid-19 shifting recommendations for gatherings, I am now offering an a-la-carte pricing of $300 per hour. This is a way for me to offer couples a maximum of flexibility when planning their wedding. Dates and times are flexible and can be changed as needed. . Please contact me to check availability and get a personalized quote.

What is included in your wedding packages?
All packages include unlimited capture and a collection of retouched images in high resolution. There is no cap on the number of photos taken or delivered.

Will you be shooting our wedding?
Always. Part of what makes Kate Fellerath Photography a unique boutique-style service is that I do all my own photography, editing and communication with my clients. I love having that personal contact and I would be sad if I couldn’t do the photography for every client.

Can you explain the difference between RAW files and jpg files?
RAW files are like digital negatives. This is the highest quality image that you can take on a digital camera. This format allows for extra details in the highlights and shadow area but is often a little flat if left unprocessed.

After a wedding, I edit all the RAW images to create the final selection and then work on each image (in post-processing) to create a vibrant colour or Black & White image that will be transformed to jpg.

Jpg files are smaller and more manageable. This is the correct format for printing or screen viewing.

Do you recommend doing an engagement shoot?
This is a great time to celebrate your engagement, get comfortable in front of the camera and spend a little time with your wedding photographer 🙂 Please see my section on Engagement Photography.

I see that you are based in Montreal. How far will you travel for a wedding?
I am kept very busy shooting in Montreal. But I often travel to the Eastern Townships and the Laurentians for weddings and family photo sessions.

We love B&W photography – can we get some of the images in Black & White?
I love Black & White too! For this reason, every photography package includes some images in Black & White. I can’t resist the timeless beauty of it. But if you REALLY love Black & White, just let me know and I’ll make sure to shoot with the intention of including more Black & White images in your final collection. With digital photography, everything is shot in colour, but can be changed in post-processing to create really dramatic and beautiful Black & White images.

Do you offer engagement sessions?
Absolutely! You can add an engagement session to any wedding package or book me separately. I have clients who come to Montreal for surprise proposals, engagement sessions and anniversary photo sessions too. Contact me for my recommendation for the best places for Engagement Photography in Montreal.

How would you describe your style of photography?
I like to work quickly and creatively. I’m always looking for the best backgrounds and the best lighting. I give simple, easy directions when needed. But mostly I want to capture people’s true personalities in an authentic and candid way. I’m organized, well-equipped, patient and always smiling. I want my images to always be beautiful, classic and timeless.

For that reason I stay away from heavy filters and cliché and old-fashioned poses. I want you to look at every image and remember how you were feeling at that moment and relive the memories. But I also want each photo to be a little works of art that can stand on its own.

So to sum it up, I hold myself to a very high standard and I’m always striving to create more and more beautiful imagery. Every day is an opportunity for great photography. If you want to see what I’m up to these days, check out my Instagram account @the_montreal_photographer.

How long have you been in business – how many weddings have you photographed?
I’ve been photographing weddings for 15 years. I can’t count the number of weddings I’ve photographed, but if I had to guess I’d say about 200 weddings. So, as you can imagine I’ve photographed in every weather condition, every location imaginable. With so many years of experience, I never get nervous, I never worry about my equipment, never focus on the technical side. This gives me the freedom to focus on creating beautiful images and really being present to capture every moment as it’s happening.

How long will it take to get our wedding photos?
This is the best part! I offer “next day previews” to all my wedding clients. Before starting the edit, I will send you a selection of some of the best images of the day for you to share with friends and family. Why not have professional photos to post on social media instead of a few shots from guests’ phones? Everyone LOVES it.

You can expect to get your entire collection of images within 2 weeks of your wedding. All photos are retouched, colour corrected and ready to print.

Do you offer video as well as photography services?
With a background in Fine Arts, photography is my passion. Since I always photograph every wedding myself, I have never branched out into video. Please contact me and I would be happy to offer some suggestions for really good videographers in Montreal.

Will we meet before the wedding?
I’m happy to meet you whenever you like. I know how busy everyone is these days, so many of my meetings are now done by phone, Zoom or Facetime. I like to also meet with clients about 2 weeks before the wedding to create a schedule and list of “must-have” photos as well as the list of family pictures to be taken. This list helps keep everyone on schedule and to make sure that not a single photo is forgotten.

Can I share some photo inspirations with you?
100% yes. I love to see what’s inspiring you and it will no doubt create a springboard for creativity in our own photo session together. I have lots of my own ideas but I’m also open to suggestions and new ideas.

How can I get my wedding photos published in a magazine?
Online magazine and print magazines really want to hear from couples directly. I can help you select a series of images to submit and would love to see your photos appear in a magazine. It’s always a treat to see my work in print.
